Ion radio checkmark won't show

I have not touched the css nor the directive yet when I use the ion-radio tag, I am able to display the value but the checkmark wont show up when the item is checked. If I set the visibility in the radio-icon class to visible, they are all checked yet it does not seem to register when the item is checked as the visibility remains hidden.
